Over the course of his four years as a Math Teacher for Silver Lakes Middle School in North Lauderdale, Florida, Horatio Major has earned the respect of his peers and students through his dedication to helping those who struggle with academics. Horatio Major was awarded for his teaching in 2008 when his students achieved the highest learning gains.
Before moving into the education field, Horatio Major studied chemistry at Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley, Georgia. He went on to work with the Sentry Supplement Company in their quality control department. Later Horatio Major performed similar work for Elan Transdermal Technologies, Inc., and Schering-Plough before changing paths to become the Managing Partner for KMN Sports, a flag football league based out of Miami Lakes, Florida.
In 2007, Horatio Major once again shifted the direction of his career when he accepted a position teaching math at Silver Lakes Middle. Every year, Horatio Major has led his lowest-scoring students to make gains of 75 percent or more on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). Mr. Major is the head of the Math Department, and he also coaches basketball and track. He also works as a Tutor with Champion Learning Educational Services, LLC. In 2010, Horatio Major began working to earn his Master of Education with a focus on Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix.
Active in a number of organizations, Horatio Major takes part in the R.E.A.L. Team’s football clinic and bike drive. He is part of the Opa-Locka Optimist Club, Inc., and the Commissioner of the South Florida Flag Football Association. He has served for five years as a member of the Broward County Basketball Officials Association (BCBOA).
