I am a Civil & Environmental Engineering Master's student at Virginia Tech. However, I would not define myself as solely an engineer. Neither would I define myself as a gardener, a musician, a hiker, a runner, or a cook, though all these activities are very dear to me. First and foremost, I am a child of God, and everything I do, I do for His glory. With the desire to be a good steward of the created world, I believe in healthy, safe, environmentally-friendly, and community-oriented "place-making". When I graduate, I hope to become a vessel through which this vision may be achieved. Whether it's through working with a well-respected engineering company or through starting a farm-to-table restaurant, only time and opportunity will tell. Whatever the case may be, I will humbly work at it with all my heart, as working for the Lord.
I have been playing piano for 17 years, guitar for 9 years, and singing all my life. I use my musical ability to compose original songs about meaningful experiences throughout my life. I have recorded, published, and sold three CDs over the past 5 years with the hope of continuing to write and produce music.
I also find incredible enjoyment in any kind of outdoor activity. I love hiking, backpacking, biking, running, walking everywhere I can, and playing sports. And I have had countless opportunities to do many of these things throughout my time in college. I also volunteer on a local organic farm as often as I can, because I love working hard and literally reaping a harvest for my labor.
Lastly, I have a deep relationship with God, and I believe that He has given me life and every blessing that I have received on this earth. In Him, I live and move and breathe, and apart from Him, I can do nothing. I often write songs about His unending love for me and my deep desire to love Him more. Through His unending graces, I aspire to do ALL my work and recreation for His glory.
