My objective is to find an internship or entry-level position in the public relations or communications field.

I am currently a junior at James Madison University. I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies, with a concentration of Public Relations. I also have taken a Technical and Scientific Communication minor. Within my last three years at JMU, I have taken many courses relating to my field of study that add to my skills in Public Relations. Some courses include: Public Relations Written Techniques, Advanced Public Relations Writing, Public Relations Visual Technical Techniques, and Communication Research Methods.  I currently hold a GPA of 3.34. This May, I will participate in a 6-credit hour course abroad for my public relations major. In this program, I will travel to eight major cities in Europe and the Middle East, where I will visit American Universities and meet with public relations professionals.

During my time at JMU, I have been highly involved in my sorority, the National Sorority of Sigma Kappa. I was a member of the Standards Board, which is the judicial system within the sorority. In this position, I presided at hearings within the sorority and assisted in New Member Education in the fall semesters. I held this position from January 2007 until January 2009.  I was also the Vice President of Scholarship during the time of December 2007 through December 2008. In this position, I met and assisted members with a GPA below the sorority’s minimum of 2.25. I also held study hours with members every semester and organized an event recognizing top scholars in the chapter. While in this position, I attended the National Convention of Sigma Kappa in the summer of 2008. I am currently the President of my chapter, which I took in December of 2008. In this position, I lead a group of 140 women and act as a liaison between my chapter and the Panhellenic community at JMU. I also complete monthly and annual reports and will attend the C.O.T.S. Program for Sigma Kappa this summer.

I have been employed at multiple retail companies and have gained many customer service and communication skills from these experiences. I have worked at Ten Thousand Villages, TJ Maxx, and Ann Taylor Loft. I have also volunteered at the local SPCA Animal Shelter in Harrisonburg, VA. Along with employment experience, I am also involved with many different programs and organizations. I attended the University Presidential Inaugural Conference in January, 2009 and was able to attend keynote speeches by Collin Powell and Al Gore. I also was able to attend the Inauguration on the Washington DC Mall.I am a member of the James Madison University chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and have participated in Madison PRIDE and CHOICES.

Boulder Ridge Day Camp

I was the Performing Arts program area counselor, where I taught the children, ages 5-15, about the performing arts. I made lesson plans for summer which had all my activities that I planned. I brought in aspects of theatre, dance, singing and cheerleading into my lesson plans.
