I work with special needs high school students of various disabilities. My primary goal is to teach students about vocational skills and life skills which assist them with their assigned job-related experiences in the community. Also, I am in charge of providing art- related experiences that expand student skills and creativity.
My experience with Early Head Start has included participation in home visits, socialization classes, parent classes, and numerous trainings in the child development and welfare field.
My duties included tutoring and mentoring students in grades K-5, planning a curriculum for and running weekly groups for students grades 3-5, assisting with screening and passing out food for the Food Bank's Food 4 Kids Program, using the Communities In Schools data management program to manage case file information and enter data, assisting in attaining and distributing community resources for students (coats, clothing, food, school supplies, holiday assistance), assisting with the YMCA Stars after-school program, and accompanying my supervisor on home visits.
My duties involved facilitating eight-session groups for children who were struggling with grief, employing several expressive therapy methods and activities to help children express their feelings, aided children in understanding the meaning of death and process of healing, helped children to process the effect of loss on their lives, and addressed several life issues while also focusing on learning to accept, commemorate, and move on from grief.
A few of my interests include traveling, photography, painting, collaging, cooking, reading, scrap booking, music, and theater.
