Accident and Emergency Unit (1 year)

  1. Triage and screening of patients.
  2. Assist with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
  3. Arresting bleeding wounds.
  4. Perform sterile dressings.
  5. Administer medications.
  6. Patient's advocate.
  7. In charge of security, dispensing and administering of dangerous drugs.

Operating Theatre (1 Year)

  1. Act as scrub nurse (no formal training) for major and minor surgeries e.g. Laparotomy, Appendectomy, Laparascopic, and Cesarean Section.
  2. Act as recovery room nurse
  3. Assist in the cleaning and sterilization of the operating theatre, equipment and surgical instruments.
  4. In charge of security, ordering and administering of dangerous drugs.

 Nephrology unit (1 year)

  1. Assist nephrology nurses in the care and monitoring of patients during hemodialysis treatment.
  2. Administering medications.
  3. Lining of haemodialysis machines.
  4. Preparing machines (priming lines) for haemodialysis treatment.
  5. Succesfully commencing and completing treatment of haemodialysis patients, namely:
  • Cannulating patients with AV fistulas.
  • Cleaning and preparing catheters (dialysis) for treatment.
  • Attaching lines to patients to commence dialysis treatment.
  • Monitoring and recording patients vital signs, including weights, before, throughout and after dialysis treatment
  • Returning patients blood and arresting bleeding to complete treatment.
  • Medicine Wards (1 year and 8 months)
  1. Supervision of junior nursing staff, nursing students and supportive staff.
  2. Allocation of staff duties.
  3. Ordering and dispensing of stock (medical supplies).
  4. Constructing and updating of nursing care plans.
  5. Auditing of nurses notes.
  6. Ensuring the use of the nursing process.
  7. Liaise with other members of the medical team in providing care for patients with chronic illnesses.
  8. Being a patient advocate.
  9. Assist with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
  10. Administer medications.

Surgical Wards (2 years)

  1. Supervision of junior nursing staff, nursing students and supportive staff.
  2. Allocation of staff duties.
  3. Ordering and dispensing of stock (medical supplies).
  4. Constructing and updating of nursing care plans.
  5. Auditing of nurses notes.
  6. Ensuring the use of the nursing process.
