Computer Science (BSc) Hons

  • Final Project - I had decided to base my final project on a new personalised computing solution, for this I have used software such as Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Visio and Excel for information management.
  • Interaction and Usability - This module focused on interface design and usability issues within software. During this module I had used software such as Microsoft Visio and Adobe Fireworks to put together mock interface designs with improvements from user feedback. Adobe fireworks I found was a very powerful tool that has a wide array of built-in tools to create accurate designs.
  • Data Structures and Algorithms Focusing on improving the efficiency of my programming skills, a lot of mathematics involved. The different kinds of technology I have used during this module are C++ files pre-configured that run two different types of algorithm which determine which type is more efficient. From this data charts and graphs are plotted proving that my own alterations in the algorithm and improved efficiency.
  • Distributed Systems Programming Creating a multi-player game using Java that can be played from different machines. For this I had used the software called Eclipse. I found this much easier to use than what was provided (j-grasp) developing in Java I found that I was a very powerful language and the tool Eclipse has many features and tools that help optimize development in Java. I had managed to create a two player game on the java platform using this software and Sprites created using Adobe Photoshop.
  • Fundamentals of Design Creating a simple data-base with basic queries using Microsoft Access. Basic SQL queries were created directly on Microsoft Access. Creating tables and importing raw information from notepad files to populate the database.
  • Professional Issues: Computing and Society Giving a presentation about computer security issues in society. With my partner we had designed a presentation about bank card security and its flaws.
  • Artificial Intelligence Create a game that simulates artificial intelligence in C++. This was created using Microsoft visual studio 2012 in the language C++. I had decided to use pointers and minimize the use of 2D array’s to create a compact and understandable code solution that worked and gave the user a feel of artificial intelligence from the simple maze game that was made to demonstrate intelligence.
  • Network Computer Systems Using Linux slackware to program a custom operating system. The operating system was downloaded and installed onto a blank machine where the basic stripped down operating system was then configured to communicate and network with other computers also configuring Linux Slackware in the lab environment.
  • Computing Research Methodologies This module was in preparation for my final project teaching appropriate research methods. I had used many project planning software such as a Microsoft project, xplan, Refme and iAgenda on the iPad.
  • Object oriented C++ - Learning the programming language C++. This was learnt on the Microsoft Visual Studio software. Basic console applications were made using the software. I then in my own time went on to create and experiment with creating and using interfaces with visual studio and C++
  • Database Design and Implementation Using various software to program in SQL to create a fully functional database from a console. This involved using software such as xampplite to program in SQL. This also involved learning how to connect to Microsoft MySQL server to set up databases.
  • Network Routing Learning how to network, servers and basic CISCO training. During this module I was exposed to networking configurations in a Lab environment to learn about basic networking and servers. Using Ethernet ports and server configuration tools I was able to set up and successfully run a server.
  • Software Engineering Using C++ to create software and learning about efficient software engineering. Microsoft visual studio along with planning tools to help create engineering efficiency when programming were used during this module.
  • Design for The Internet Website Development, I had created a website during this module using software such as notepad++ Adobe Dreamweaver and Google chrome developer tools to look at and read HTML from other websites to support my websites development. This is one of my strong points in programming.
  • Software Development Using a programming language in this case C# to create a console application. Microsoft Visual Studio was again used to create this console application.
  • Computer Systems – Learning to use software such as Wireshark and CISCO packet tracer in a lab environment.
  • Introduction to Electronic Content Origination – Basic introduction to computer electronics, the technologies used in this module were varied from photo editing software to second life the sandbox game to gain a better understanding of content origination. Google sketch up was also used to create a 3D model to be imported into second life and used.
  • Introduction to Programming – Learning the basics of programming in the c# language. The technology used during this module was again Microsoft visual studio to create a basic console application.
