Studying Broadcast Journalism and Spanish
A student of broadcast journalism, Hannah Martin-Duarte has already gained exposure in front of the camera as a leading cast member of Big Rich Texas and former cast of Dallas Divas & Daughters. In addition to studying, Hannah Martin-Duarte enjoys traveling and has visited Italy, Thailand, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Visiting a new country is an exhilarating experience, but it is sometimes confusing, especially when visitors accidentally break the rules of etiquette and create awkward moments. It is important to research local customs before visiting a new place. For example, in Italy, visitors should say hello and goodbye by using the appropriate buongiorno and buonasera, not the common ciao. When visiting sacred places like churches, they should take note of the dress code. Many churches and religious sanctions require visitors to cover their knees and their shoulders as signs of respect. When eating out, politeness to the waiters is important, and guests must ask for the check when they are ready to leave. Additionally, it is always a good idea to learn a few common courtesy words, such as the Italian words for hello, goodbye, please, and thank you.
Hannah Martin-Duarte is a recognized cast member of Big Rich Texas, which aired on the Style Network from 2011 to 2013. In addition to her work in television, she currently studies broadcast journalism and Spanish in college. In her free time, Hannah Martin-Duarte enjoys a number of hobbies, including cooking Thai food. Cooking is one of life’s great pleasures, but making the same meals repeatedly is sometimes frustrating or boring. Thai food makes a nice alternative, but cooking it is a little tricky. 1. Use fresh ingredients to achieve the best taste. This is especially important when preparing vegetables and ingredients like lemongrass. However, frozen spices and herbs do not lose their flavors. 2. Use the right equipment for the best results. It is not mandatory, but preparing the food is easier in a wok, rather than a standard pan, and wooden spoons are ideal for stir frying. A rice cooker also comes in handy, and a mortar and pestle allows cooks to quickly mix herbs and spices. 3. Stir frying is easy with a little practice. It is important to use plenty of oil and to continuously add liquids like water or broth. For the best results, use rice made a few days in advance so it has a dryer, harder consistency. Before putting the rice in the pan, mix it with a tablespoon of oil to separate the grains.

Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Vonnegut was the youngest of three children in a wealthy family that fell on hard times during the Depression. Vonnegut began writing during high school, though he was otherwise an unmotivated student. He studied chemistry at Cornell University, dropping out to fight in World War II. During the Battle of the Bulge the author was taken as a POW to Dresden and survived the Dresden bombings. His experiences in the city would later lend themselves to his most famous novel, Slaughterhouse-Five. After returning to the United States, Vonnegut got married and resumed his writing, beginning with short stories and then turning his attention to novels. By the 1970s, he was considered one of the country’s greatest writers. He continued to write until his death in New York City in 2007.
Broadcast journalism student and TV personality Hannah Martin-Duarte is currently leading cast on NBC Universal's Big Rich Texas scheduled to launch of its fourth season in 2014 on the Esquire Network. When not working or studying, Hannah Martin-Duarte enjoys cooking international dishes from Mexico, Spain, Greece, India, and Thailand. There are five elements that complement each other in Thai cooking: a balance of sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and spicy. Often, Thai people will cook a variety of dishes, some of which hold all five elements in a subtle and equal balance, and others where one element, such as sweet, is the most powerful. The salty element often comes from the use of fish, soy, or oyster sauce, or shrimp paste. The sweetness may be present through the inclusion of palm sugar, or sweet pickled garlic. A sour tang is present when the chef adds lime juice, tamarind, or rice vinegar. Certain types of vegetables and herbs provide bitterness, and the spice level is controlled with chili and/or peppercorns. Thai cooking is well-known for its subtle layers and fresh ingredients. Rice is usually served in abundance with all dishes, and the food is shared among a group of people.
