Hank Groover - Priest, Cook, and Traveler

About Hank Groover

A graduate of the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology in Berkeley, California, Hank Groover received his ordination as a Catholic priest in 1986. Since that time, he has served in the Southern Dominican Province with a particular focus on ministering to those in prison. Hank Groover has ministered at eight state prisons to date, as well as at three death-row facilities and a federal penitentiary. An active member of the National Coalition for the Abolition of the Death Penalty, he has volunteered his time with several South Carolina prisons as well.

A professional cook before he entered the priesthood, Hank Groover prepared meals on a tugboat for five years. He continues to experiment with new recipes and has appeared on culinary celebrity Paula Deen's television program.

Also an avid traveler, Henry Groover most enjoys traveling in Northern Spain, though he has also lived in Ireland for a summer and has explored Central and South America. Closer to home, Henry Groover enjoys such varied hobbies as deep-sea fishing, calligraphy, and cooking.
