Nurse Manager

Life Care Centers of America

Starting as a staff nurse on the sub-acute unit I was rapidly promoted to charge nurse and then nurse manager of the unit. Over seeing the care of busy 45 bed sub-acute unit. Responsibilities included managing a staff of over 25 nurses and aides. Developing care plans for all new admissions to drive the care for their stay. Working closely with rehab services to ensure the patients were kept on track for their goals.  Worked with contracted hospice services to coordinate care and ensure patient's needs were met. Attended daily PPS meetings to discuss care given as it relates to the reimbursement. In this position I developed an understanding of RUG scores, the PPS system, the MMQ system for Medicaid. I worked with the medical director to develop new protocols for warfarin dosing thus reducing calls out and wait times for changes drastically improving patient care.  Assisted the Executive Director in working with the pharmacy and the medical director to change house orders that would give the patients fast predictable care while keeping costs below budget. In this role I was a strong advocate for not only the patients on my floor but my staff. If I took anything away from this role is was the ability to manage heath care staff and how to interact and effectively communicate.
