Work experience

Kaimuki Library Volunteer

Kaimuki Public Library

2 hours per week and 40 weeks per year

I volunteered at the Kaimuki Library because I really like books and it offered more opportunities for me to improve my communication skills. I was able to talk to patrons and help them sign up for the summer reading program. I also learned useful skills such as performing clerical duties, shelving, and arranging books. These skills are advantageous to me because I could apply these skills at various areas of my career.

Questioning chapter headings and making inferences based on titles and headings to infer what will happen next in the novel.

I am able to set a purpose to give myself an awareness of how to be selective in my reading of the material.

I am able to fully analyze the text and state a meaning for the text as a whole.

I am open-minded – able to using judgement and discipline to process what I am learning about without letting your personal bias or opinion detract from the arguments.
