Though early in his career, Gregory Whelan has already built an impressive résumé of business successes. As an undergraduate at Bates College, a leading private liberal arts institution in Lewiston, Maine, Gregory Whelan earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics and was nominated for the Charles A. Dana Award, an honor reserved for students in the top 10% of their class. His thesis research focused on the relationship between corporate governance and returns on the Philippine Stock Exchange. After graduation, Gregory Whelan applied his understanding of complex systems and computer modeling as an Analyst with IBM Global Services in Fairfax, Virginia. There, he reviewed several years of data regarding the shipment of international parcels in the U.S. military mail system. Subsequently, Gregory Whelan accepted a position with Seagate Global Advisors, LLC, an asset management firm specializing in private equity investment in Asian companies. As an Analyst for the Philippines Special Opportunities Fund, Gregory Whelan developed tools to identify public and private companies in the Philippines that offered sound investment opportunities. He also served Seagate as a Trading Assistant for the HFR Global Macro Fund, building his expertise on a high-pressure international trading desk. In 2009, Gregory Whelan became the Director of Business Development for Amedia Networks, Inc., a California technology start-up that developed applications for the long-distance wireless transmission of high-definition video. In addition to developing a national marketing network for the company's products, Gregory Whelan collaborated with engineers to expand into military and other niche markets. Currently, Gregory Whelan is further developing his skills and expertise as a full-time Master of Business Administration candidate at the University of Texas at Austin's McCombs School of Business, where he is concentrating on marketing.
