Research Professional

Government of New Brunswick
Research Professional at (1 year 1 month) Provided process chemistry expertise for the development of a pilot plant biorefinery that utilizes waste starch(cull potatoes) for the production of biofuels and bioplastic products. Chemical management of a 600 kW bio-gas digester that supplied electricity to a farm and local residents while producing high quality organic fertilizer. Developed an ultrasonic-chemical process for the fractionation of lignocellulosic biomass into fermentable sugars and polymers of interest. Planted andmaintained1 acre of organic miscanthus as an energy crop feedstock for biorefining. Supervised the daily operations of chemical and biological research laboratories while managing a team of technicians. Leadership role in the procurement of analytical instrumentation for local laboratory services. Developed agricultural and biorefining projects for local clients by successfully writing funding grants. Projects included natural fertilizers, organic pesticides, biodegradable plastics and methane enrichment.

Research Chemist

HSM Systems Inc
Research Chemist at (1 year) Developed a novel green process for the removal of sulfur and nitrogen from transportation fuels by reforming polyaromatic hydrocarbons(PAH) in supercritical carbon dioxide with commercial noble- metal and synthesized transition-metal catalysts. Applied technique to the upgrading of Alberta bitumen for production of light sweet petroleum that is ideal for reforming into gasoline and diesel. Chemical management of the poisonous gas hydrogen sulfide during hydrodesulfurization reactions. Established bench scale trails to remove sulfur from local(Irving Oil) high sulfur diesel in batch reactors. Developed a Page1 partnership with Irving Oil during this research because the lower catalytic costs and lower energy conditions employed represented significant cost reduction in the production of premium ultra low sulfur diesel.

Chemical Technician

HSM Systems Inc
Chemical Technician at (1 year) Developed, constructed and maintained a high pressure/temperature multiple reactor system for hydroprocessing in supercritical carbon dioxide. Supervising and mentoring summer students in a petroleum upgrading and hydrogen fuel cell laboratory. Constructed and assembled 12 hydrogen fuel cell prototypes while optimizing the cycling nature of hydrogen gas. Hands on experience manufacturing fuel cell rods after activation of pyrophoric metal hydrides via mechanochemical techniques. Regular presentations of results to investors and giving tours of the research facility. Languages English (Full professional proficiency) Skills & Expertise Policy Analysis
