Creativity

Creativity and thinking outside the box has always been a skill. In 1982 I was awarded an employee excellence award for creative approaches and tools I created in the customer support area of software products. Creativity has afforded the ability for me to develop "active learning" in the courses being taught at Neumont University. These skills are put to use developing participatory demonstrations of business concepts, unique analysis of case studies and the ability to help students develop forward thinking rather than backward thinking regarding the lessons being taught.

Business Expansion and Globalization

Much of the work done on the executive team at 3M involved expansion of the business. This was done via both creation of new products and acquisition of companies in competitive or expansion markets. I spent two years in a religious service capacity in the UK and South Wales. As a result, I learned various cultures in the European area. Understanding cultural differences have helped in my ability to understand various approaches to business and have an understanding of the reasoning behind the thought processes and how to matriculate the thinking of various cultures into one strategic direction.

Team Building and Development

Helped in transitioning 3M Health Information Systems from a functional to a matrix management organizational structure. From that point on I have been involved in creating and managing teams through the forming stage to the performing stage. As an executive sponsor for several teams, I have been able to develop skills in helping establish charters, statements of work and project structure with various teams. Many of the teams have had responsibilities in completing feasibility studies, doing risk analysis studies, completing design documents, building software, testing software, implementing software and then turning it over to support groups. The system development life cycle has been implemented in all teams I have had responsibility to work with. Projects have required teams to use both agile and waterfall development approaches so I am versed in both.

Strategic Planning

Have had experience in creation, implementation, analysis, and redesign of business strategies. Focus has been on the processes businesses must create to allow strategies to become part of day to day operations during the execution stage but be able to be extracted from day to day operations during the evaluation stages.   Significant work has been done in teaching, developing and utilizing business intelligence and "Big Data".
