Recognizing the importance of discipline both inside and outside of the ring, martial arts enthusiast and former mixed martial arts (MMA) champion Glen Beram attended Manhattan College, from which he received a master’s degree in math and business. As of 1991, Glen Beram teaches math to high school students in Westchester, New York’s, public school system. From 1987 until 1993, Glen Beram served as a martial arts instructor on behalf of Oyama Karate, an independent, worldwide karate organization founded in 1985 by Soshu Shigero Oyama and Soshi Saiko Shihan Yasuhiko Oyama. During his time as a karate instructor, Glen Beram instructed advanced black belt students in full contact kumite (sparring) techniques. In addition to his work as an instructor, Glen Beram established himself as a world class fighter during the late eighties and early nineties. To this end, Beram was an MMA Full Contact Fighter between 1988 and 1992. As a fighter, he won the National MMA Championship in 1990. In the following year, Glen Beram fought his way to the finals of the Pride full contact competition. More recently, in 2008 Glen Beram drew upon his passion for martial arts and his commitment to education to establish Work 2 Workout with co-founder Demetrios Mihailidis. This program endeavors to provide incentives for children to achieve success in the realm of physical fitness and in the classroom. Glen Beram has set up the organization so that it is accessible to children of all income levels; the only prerequisite to joining is maintaining adequate grades. Since founding Work 2 Workout, Glen Beram has also collaborated with the National Federation of Fitness Trainers to provide various fitness classes for students involved with the program.
