The REIQ (Real Estate Institute of QLD)

The REIQ is the peak professional association for the real estate industry. Today, it represents approximately 2,000 agency offices and more than 15,000 property professionals including principal licensees, salespeople, property managers, resident unit managers, auctioneers, business brokers, buyers’ agents, and commercial and industrial agents in Queensland.  This equates to about 85 per cent of real estate agencies across the State.

•  Create the Institute’s vision and strategic plan.
•  Drive the development of the Institute’s online products and services and develop revenue opportunities through that online presence.
•  Conceptualise and implement business development strategies to promote growth, improved business practice, membership benefits and increased revenue.
•  Maintain currency of knowledge for all functional responsibilities to ensure effective leadership and policy development.
•  Prepare budgets and operating plans for all areas of responsibility and monitor performance against those plans.
•  Create and drive the digital marketing plan that will effectively grow the Institute’s online presence.
•  Liaise effectively with other Executive Managers to ensure whole of organisation objectives are met and communicated in line with the REIQ strategic plan.
•  As directed by, or with the approval of, the Chief Executive Officer, represent the Institute at meetings, seminars, and conferences. Deliver presentations and speeches as required.

Key achievements;
• re-launch. Revenue growth from $0 - $700k annually in seven months.
•  SEM/SEO generated 500% traffic growth in four months

  • National team of 10 employees across sales, marketing and product.
  • Responsibility for all sales and marketing functions.
  • Full responsibility for business planning and profit and loss.


  • Grew the number of subscribers by 150% and increased revenue from $1mil to $3mil.
  • Retrained the existing staff and employed an additional five sales people. The goal of the training was to help them better understand the foundation principles of selling and the concept of solution selling.
  • Increased the amount of properties listed on the site from 10,000 to 20,000 (actual growth was to 23,000 in six months). This was achieved by:  the increase in subscribers to the site and mail outs to casual clients to encourage more use.
  • Grew the amount of traffic to the site from 20,000 to 40,000 people per month (actual growth was to 56,000 visitors in four months), taking the site to  the clear leading commercial website.

Sales Director

Fairfax:, Fairfax's online jobs website and has over 100 team members employed in five states across Australia including Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia. Responsibilities:

  • Restructuring of the sales team, while increasing revenue of the team by managing the non-performers and rewarding the performers. I reduced the total team from 10 to 6 nationally and grew the annual billing revenue from $1 million to $3 million.
  • Introduction of an improved commission structure to reward performance.  This is now used across all parts of the Fairfax business.
  • Improvement and streamlining of operations by implementing an account-billing procedure and debt collection policy.
  • Implementation of a key Account Manager program that represented both online and print services  to our clients. This built strong relations with recruitment agencies wishing to see a single key Fairfax representative.
  • Development and rolling out of a unique copy-writing training program delivered to 350 recruitment agencies nationally.  This was designed to help with writing a good ad. for the Internet.
  • Worked closely with product development team by assisting in the creation of new and innovative product ideas.
  • Presented at several HR seminars including the Australian HR Summit, Government forumsand RCSA and AHRI luncheons.
