Brian Burke has over 15 years of experience in the IT Security industry, working for both vendor and analyst agencies, including IDC and Gartner. He is currently the Sr. Director of Market Intelligence & Analyst Relations at Kaspersky Lab.  At Kaspersky, Brian is responsible for all facets of analyst relations, competitive intelligence, market research, corporate strategy, sales enablement, and market forecasting.  

Prior to Kaspersky, Brian was Program Director of IDC's Security Products and Services program. Brian conducted in-depth primary research and provided insight and analysis on a variety of security markets. He was a frequent speaker at many security industry conferences, including RSA. He was also a regular contributor to numerous business and trade publications, such as The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, New York Times, BusinessWeek, Boston Globe, San Jose Mercury News, Washington Post, Fortune, ComputerWorld, Network World, InfoWorld, and others.

Sr. Director, Market Intelligence & Analyst Relations

Kaspersky Lab

Global head of market intelligence & analyst relations. In this role, I am responsible for all inbound and outbound activities with industry analyst firms.  I manage all major vendor evaluations, including the Gartner Magic Quadrant, Forrester Wave, and IDC MarketScape. I also leverage analyst insight to provide C-Suite guidance and strategy across all business units including Marketing, Corp Strategy, Sales, and R&D (Including Product Management).

Accomplishments at Kaspersky Lab include:

  • Moved Kaspersky from "visionary" to "leader" position in the Gartner Magic Quadrant over the course of 2 years. Improved "leader" position in the Gartner Magic Quadrant each of the past 4 years (2012-2015). 
  • Kaspersky is one of only two vendors ranked as a "leader" by all major analyst firms (Gartner, IDC, Forrester) in Endpoint Security. We call this our "triple crown". 
  • Implemented annual Industry Analyst Summit.  Highest rated event in the industry according to analyst feedback. 
  • Developed customer reference program.
  • Created competitive intelligence and customer intelligence programs.  These programs are highly rated by sales, marketing, R&D, and executive management.
  • Developed an end-user targeting/buying profile for enterprise sales & partners

Program Director, Security Products and Services


In this position, I managed a team of analysts responsible for market trends and research in various security markets, including: Endpoint Security, Data Protection, Messaging Security, and Web Security. I was responsible for 120+ research projects per year, several multi-million dollar subscription services and consulting practices, and roughly 80 clients.

Accomplishments at IDC include:

  • Managed sales, marketing, and delivery for a $3 million research practice.
  • Developed quarterly, security tracker generated over $400K in new business. The quarterly product includes a complete view of the security market across software, hardware, and service platforms. 
  • Managed relationships with 60+ security vendors and 20 end-user clients.
  • Developed relationships within the security industry including vendors, IT managers, financial analysts, and the press
  • Pioneered research into DLP and security SaaS resulting in several strategic consulting engagements with IT security vendors.
