I am the proprietor and instructor (Sensei) of Kaizen Karate, a karate school in Northern Johannesburg. I teach a growing number of adult students the traditional karate style of Goju-Ryu, and manage all aspects of this business.

I have also designed the website and placed it on the web myself.

Key Account Manager

I was directly responsible for all aspects of "In-House" or "Onsite" training courses for those clients allocated to me.

This allocation was done through my own sourcing of clients from a database, Qualifying the leads myself, initiating contact, sending quotations, organising and facilitating (with a subject expert teaching the material) of the entire course and invoicing the client.

The courses run included the entire range of CBM-Courses, and also the occasional custom creation of course as and when they were required.

The SETA (NQF) accredited courses were also accredited through my direct follow up and management of the process although the actual accreditation was managed outside of my physical work.

Wherever needed I jumped in to help with the Database management (Access SQL Database with customised Visual Basic Macro's) which eventually extended into a major management of the final database software (Data Express). I was involved in the testing and bug fixing of this product.

Wherever else needed I did my best to solve everyday general IT issues that may have cropped up, this saved the company time and money on hiring in experts where not necessary.

Program Manager

My responsibilities included organization of most of the logistical arrangements for the different programs throughout South Africa run by the Applied Academics division of Nedbank.

These included:

The Management Advancement Program (MAP), Run in association with WITS Business School. The Leadership Development Program (LDP), Run in association with GIBS Business SchoolThe Senior Leadership Development Program (SLDP) Run in association with GIBS Business SchoolOnce the participants were chosen by the different divisions and the prerequisites were met; I would inform participants of their acceptance, duties, requirements and other general information with regards to the program.I was the liaison between the delegates and the business school as I was the first point of contact for non-academic matters for both the business schools and the delegates with regards to attendance, accommodation, results, awards evenings, or any other general information necessary for the success of the programs.I did the majority of the planning for awards evenings and corresponded with the relevant venues, caterers, business schools, photographers, and travel agents. It was my job to ensure everyone was in the right place at the right time and that they had somewhere to stay over if necessary.I organized times and dates for the programs based on: venue and lecturer availability for the following year, deciding which programs would be run on what dates, taking into account the public holidays, religious commitments, and any other relevant corporate dates for all of the above programs.Everything I did was recorded both electronically, and archived in files and it was my responsibility to make sure that all information accessed by my superiors was accurate, correct, and up to date with all the relevant information for all delegates. Backups and other network resources that were accessed by the department were my responsibility

After the completion of my contract I was asked to stay on a further month as I was needed to start the programs I had set up.

Additional Resources

To gain experience in a corporate environment that will be beneficial to my studying process, my general experience, and my skills. This will ultimately advance my career further once I have graduated from UNISA with a B-Com (Management) Degree. Upon completion of my degree, I hope to move on to a more senior management position.

My interests include but are not limited to:

Karate, Sailing, Computers, Dog Training, Ballroom and Latin American Dancing, Photography, Classical Guitar.

I believe I can contribute effectively to any company in either in the small business sector or a large corporation.

This contribution is amplified by my willingness to learn - and once I have sufficient knowledge - my aptitude, and experience with teaching others will be a significant advantage to working with people who can teach me, and with those that can benefit from my current knowledge.

My personal philosophy - as used in the naming of my karate school - Kaizen translates to constant and consistent improvement. I intend to bring this philosophy into any business with regards to my personal performance, and will therefore put my best effort into any and all projects given to me.
