During the 2009 fall semester, Steve Knight was reporter/editor-in-chief of The Collegian and a journalism student at Tarrant County College, Fort Worth, Texas, pursuing a journalism career.He previously served as reporter/managing editor during the 2009 spring semester.He was honored in 2009 by the Texas Community College Journalists Association (First Place, Investigative Writing; Second Place, Editorial Writing; Honorable Mention, News Writing) and the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (Honorable Mention, On-site Print News Writing).
Before returning to college, Knight taught instrumental music in the Texas public schools for several years and is active as a composer and arranger.He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music Education from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas.Originally from El Paso, Knight attended Coronado High School. He is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles and American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
Knight's music compositions and arrangements have been performed for the Texas Music Educators Association, International Clarinet Association, Bands of America National Concert Band Festival, Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest and the Texas State Marching Contest.His music publishers include JPM Music Publications, Cimarron Music Press, Harold Gore Publishing Company , RBC Music Publications , BRS Music, TRN Music Publisher and Thunderbird Music Publications.
Knight has won an ASCAP Standard Award each year since 1999.
