Council Member and Personnel Advocate

Faith-Based Organization

Council: Collaborate with others to create vision and structure for organization’s future. Financial and operational oversight to assure organization is fulfilling mission.

In late 2009 proposed congregational focus "St. Peder's is fighting hunger in our community:  Body, Mind and Spirit" to capture members' imagination and foster engagement.  Presented information to congregation on 1/10/10 and gained commitment from across member groups to engage in numerous hunger-fighting activities within Longfellow community and throughout the world!

Personnel Committee:  Beginning in 2004, collaborated with a group of concerned members to integrate professional personnel policies, tools and standards to build and sustain an outstanding team of professional employees.  Since this time, this team has proposed to the council and then implemented:

  • Position descriptions for all positions
  • A sustainable annual performance review/goal setting process for all employees
  • A professional employment policy manual
  • A market-based process for budgeting employee costs

This team has been recognized by the congregation for creating a more professional and supportive work environment that has provided a strong foundation for building a high-performing staff.

  • Consulted with sales and marketing executives to create low-cost and effective learning experiences and coaching tools tailored for individual teams. Expanded use of technology and social media for learning, coaching and client contact.
  • Collaborated with experts from marketing support, manufacturing and information technology to produce enterprise-wide LEAN Sigma self-development series. Series utilized a pull approach to reduce training costs and shorten time to proficiency.   • Managed $400,000 expense budget. Kept expenses flat while doubling audiences and increasing program offerings.
  • Created succession management and talent development program for executives and mid-level managers that included custom assessments. Client organizations reported significant improvements in top talent retention and productivity.

Primary project - Create train-the-trainer program for nuclear energy instructors.  This program met requirements of and brought the organization into compliance with regulatory agency guidelines.

Primary project - Content documentation for banking operations elearning modules.  These modules were used to train auditors and business consultants about basic bank operating processes and practices.

Graduate Assistant

Held two graduate assistant positions during academic year.

Research Assistant: Provided support to long-term Marketing Education Program research project.  This position required extensive research using literature reviews, interviewing and focus group interviews.  Co-Authored white paper, "Industry Based Training in Minnesota" published through Minnesota Research and Development Center for Vocational Education.

Teaching Assistant: Researched, designed, delivered and measured learner performance for undergraduate course, "Teaching Display and Visual Merchandising."
