About Filipe Espinheira

A highly regarded veterinarian, Filipe Espinheira has held positions as associate small animal veterinarian, relief veterinarian, and assistant professor of veterinary ophthalmology. He has helped write several publications and presentations over the years and has spoken on such topics as cataracts, glaucoma and corneal diseases at various meetings in Germany and USA. He has several years of formal teaching experience on a wide range of topics and has completed various postgraduate training courses. A diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, he earned his degree in veterinary medicine from Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro University. Filipe Espinheira currently teaches veterinary ophthalmology at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Outside of work, Filipe Espinheira enjoys being outside. He regularly hikes and camps anywhere he goes and was a member of Boy Scouts while growing up in Portugal. While a teenager, he participated in competitive rowing and is a former vice national champion. He also enjoys running, biking, and swimming. Also an avid photographer, he often experiments with various photography techniques and subjects. While studying in Portugal, he won a prize for some of his black-and-white photographs. He has traveled to several states in the United States and has lived in the United Kingdom and Barcelona, Spain.
