Farryn Melton is the Vice President of Global Strategic Sourcing and Chief Procurement Officer at the world’s largest independent biotechnology company, Amgen Incorporated. In her role at Amgen, Farryn Melton leads an organization of 170. She is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic sourcing program, global systems, supplier diversity, and global procurement governance. Farryn Melton is responsible for managing the external spend of $4-5 billion, which includes all corporate activity, sales and marketing, research, development, and manufacturing. Along with these duties, Farryn Melton handles Amgen’s global travel operations and international events.
Over her five years at Amgen, Farryn Melton has successfully carried out a number of beneficial changes, including the implementation of a world-class global category process for management of direct and indirect spend. In other moves that increased efficiency, Farryn Melton centralized meeting management and outsourced certain procurement and travel, allowing for more time and energy to be devoted to high-priority tasks. She and her team have also implemented programs (in partnership with the business) that resulted in the reduction of lead time of key materials, income inspection process improvements, and supply chain efficiencies. A champion of workplace diversity, Farryn Melton and her team partner with others within Amgen to develop and optimize a holistic diversity program.
Farryn Melton has previously worked at Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation; Pfizer Inc.; Sony Pictures Entertainment, Inc.; and Boeing Corporation. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Farryn Melton has taken part in Executive Development Programs at Harvard Business School. Farryn Melton is a Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) for life and holds Certifications in Negotiations and Contract Management and in Leadership and Management.
