Duty and Operations Manager/ Fresh Food Inventory Manager/ Perishables Assistant

Woolworths Ltd

Woolworths Ltd is an Australian Multinational Conglomerate with extensive retail interest throughout Australia and New Zealand. It is the largest retail company in both Australia and New Zealand by market capitalisation and sales. My duties and responsibilities were:

  • I was initially hired as a Perishables Assistant for the Dairy/ Perishables department where I had to fill and stock shelves.
  • I was promoted to the post of Duty Manager where I received training in various supervisory/operational management roles. Some of my key responsibilities were but not limited to customer service, day to day operations, financial operations and people management. I was mostly held responsible for the store when the senior management was absent.
  • During my time as the Duty Manager I was directly supervised by Assistant Store Manager Erin Armstrong and Long Life Manager Colin Green. I was also offered more responsibilities other than my regular tasks such as arrangement of staff rosters, merchandising and ordering of stock to the store with careful consideration of previous sales records for each product.
  • During my time as the Duty/ Operations Manager I had to attend both weekly and monthly meetings with senior management to discuss store related issues and to improve shortcomings.
  • I was also a key employee of the store where I also mentored, trained both new and old staff in order to achieve sales and profits in line with company budgets.
  • In the month of January of 2013, I was offered another promotion as a Fresh Food Inventory Manager while serving as the Duty Manager for the store.
  • Other than my usual responsibilities as the Duty Manager, more responsibilities were added such as managing and planning of fresh food for the store such as products from Produce, Deli, Bakery/ Bake house and Meat departments.
  • Conducted both fortnightly and monthly stock take for fresh food departments in order to investigate shrinkage and wastages of products.

  • Helped drive shrinkage in fresh food to a minimum to avoid wastage by simply studying sales records from previous months and previous years and by ordering just right.
  • Brought down operational costs by offering key employees with added responsibilities thus no additional recruitment was needed for the store.
  • Quickly became a trusted employee to the Store Manager and the Assistant Store Manager and earned a reputation for maintaining a positive attitude and producing high-quality work.
  • I was also nominated for Store Management training by the Store Manager Rosemary Bopp and Assistant Store Manager Erin Armstrong.
