Mar 2014 - Present

Associate Consultant (Independent)

APCO Worldwide Advisory Services Pvt. Ltd.

I was called in to serve this world-renowned agency again reporting direct to its Singapore office but as an independent consultant after I resigned from SME Corporation Malaysia, considering my previous impeccable track record in serving them back in 2010 albeit on a different client and project focus.

Some of the consulting projects that I have involved with are, but not limited to:

Jan 2013 - Feb 2014

Manager, Business Development Division

SME Corporation Malaysia

I worked as a Manager in Business Development Division with SME Corporation Malaysia, a government agency under the purview of Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) which acts as the central coordinating agency across other 60 agencies throughout 15 ministries towards the development of small and medium enterprises in Malaysia.

My main job scope then was coordinating the SME-University Internship Programme, whereby we are linking public universities in Malaysia with the participating local micro and small businesses. The main objective of this Programme is to improve the business capability of selected companies during the three-month Programme period by deploying undergraduate students performing as junior business consultant.

Besides my main core, I played a key role on various other projects, among others;

  • ASEAN-Korea SME Conference 2013: I was also involved as part of the main secretariat for the ASEAN-Korea SME Conference 2013 held in June in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre whereby I was tasked as the focal person in coordinating speakers and participants ranging from other Malaysian government agencies / ministries & industry players as well as I worked closely with the Korean Embassy in Kuala Lumpur in bringing speakers from South Korea. I was also honoured with the appointment as liaison officer for the event's honourable speaker, Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz who was the longest serving MITI minister.
  • UK Trade Mission: Appointed as the officer-in-charge for the trade mission to the United Kingdom from 27 October till 2 November 2013 whereby selected Malaysian companies were invited to participate for potential business linkages with their British counterparts in the aviation sector.

For the record, as part of this trade mission event, I also facilitated the SME Corp official visit to Tesco's Reading & Didcot Distribution Centres in UK with SME Corp's chairman Dato' Al-Amin (now Tan Sri) & deputy CEO Puan Rohana Ramly (now retired), with much thanks to the cooperation given by Tesco led by Encik Azlam Shah Alias (now Datuk) and team.
  • National Mark of Malaysian Brand: Involved in the promotion of government’s initiative to spur quality products and services among the local SMEs, known as the National Mark of Malaysian Brand.

Reason for leaving: To focus on my business venture.

Jan 2012 - Dec 2012

Next Generation Leader / Project Executive

AirAsia Berhad

  • Worldwide recruitment drive was done for the first batch in 2011 and I was one of the top 19 candidates selected among more than a thousand applicants, to be part of AirAsia's ultimate management training programme for young professionals known as the Next Generation Leaders (NGL).
  • I've completed my 6-month training period and then was posted to the department of Customer Experience and Technology as Project Executive in regional strategic planning team, with job scope on business standards. Essentially I was responsible on standardising business operation across AirAsia group which include Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan as well as other hubs and AirAsia X.
Jan 2011 - Dec 2011

Consultant (Special Project)

National Communications Team (NCT) Malaysia
  • I was again privileged when my services in APCO Worldwide being acknowledged, evidently with the opportunity given for me to continue servicing the Malaysian government but this time with the National Communications Team (NCT).
  • Strict and thorough selection was conducted before one could be absorbed into NCT due to the highly sensitive and critical confidentiality of information that the organisation is involved with.

Reason for leaving: Trying out new adventure in the aviaiton industry with AirAsia. The decision was fully supported by my superior since the entry process to get into the giant MNC itself was extremely difficult.

Jan 2010 - Dec 2010

Communications Consultant

APCO Worldwide (Kuala Lumpur office)
  • I was privileged to be engaged as communications consultant with APCO Worldwide (Malaysia office), an American-based communications consultancy firm servicing our main client at the material time; the Government of Malaysia.
  • My main tasks included research, media analysis, social media tracking and writing communications materials such as key messages and press statements. My legal advice was also sought after in assisting the firm to prepare writing materials.

Reason for leaving: Technically I was transferred to NCT continuing the service since the firm's contract with the client came to the end of the contractual period.

Feb 2009 - Oct 2009

Messrs. Tommy Thomas
  • During my pupillage period with Messrs. Tommy Thomas, I was mostly involved with corporate litigation and constitutional matters.I take personal pride in knowing that I was the first UiTM chambering student accepted into this boutique litigation powerhouse and among the few chambering students selected to undergo the 9-month pupillage under its own managing partner, Mr Tommy Thomas who carries more than 3 decades of practicing experience with him.
  • I was also actively involved in a Dock Brief Programme, organised by the Legal Aid Centre in Kuala Lumpur where we offered legal representation in criminal cases on a pro- bono basis.
  • I was then admitted to the High Court of Malaya as an Advocate and Solicitor on 12th December 2009.

Reason for leaving: The 9-month compulsory pupillage (also known as 'chambering') timeframe ended.
