I would categorize my 11 years of professional career in the following manner:
as junior architect (1998 - 2005) After graduating with a degree of Architecture from UET Lahore in July 1988, the first seven years of my professional practice had been in Pakistan. Initially I worked with one of the country's best architects and Interior designers like DGP - Design Group Practice, IDS - Impact Design Studio and with a renowned architect Qaiser Hasan in Islamabad. The nature of the projects ranged from pure architecture like town houses, apartment buildings, farm houses, commercial/ mix use retail buildings to the interior designing that included retail, franchise outlets, office interiors, boutiques, airline offices & large scale multinational corporate office setups. The nature of responsibilities grew with the time, as I started as assisting in planning, sketching, drafting, detailing & presentations etc.
All those years, I had been involved specially in the CAD drafting, 3d visualization and the art of presentation.
as project architect (2005-2006) In April 2005, I got the opportunity to join the team of world renowned architect and master planner Teo Ah Khing in a firm called TAK Management Consultants Sdn Bhd - a sister concern of TAK Group of Companies based in Malaysia. The firm at that time had recently won a design competition for the 'City within a City' - development of sectors E-10 & D-11 in Islamabad,a project comprising of a 2500 hectare master plan and architecture of the office complex for NGC - New General Head Quarters. As a project architect in Islamabad, I had been managing multi tasks as a liaison person for all the diverse activities, procedures, besides that I was actively involved as a member of the concept development team handling architecture of Office Complex for 7000 employees.
During that time I was also involved in the projects such as BOG - Bahria Oriental Gardens, a 100 acre themed Architecture dwelling comprising of Villas, Studio Shop Apartments, High Rise Apartments, retail outlets, with state of the art other complete amenities besides the Signature Projects of Emaar Properties (Pakistan), a detailed Architecture and Engineering package for prototype luxurious villas in Tuscan, Spanish, Moorish & Mediterranean style.
I learned extensively the different phases of the project, through a multi discipline coordination of team work that has given me a certain level of maturity to resolve the design issues with a different approach.
as design architect (2006-2008) - I term this time period as a breakthrough in my professional career so far as the TAK Design Consultants after shifting their head office in Dubai, gave me an opportunity to relocate in Dubai to work on Meydan Grandstand - world's longest grandstand structure (1000m), the first of its kind with a Banyan Tree boutique Five Star Hotel and a Godolphin Museum. During my stay in TAK Dubai office till 2008, I saw a major expansion within a company that grew its staff from 50 to 500 in a span of one and a half years. I had survived tremendous project deadline pressures through my hardship and determination as being one of the few to have worked upon the signature project. Because of my keen interest in the 3d visualization expertise, I had been assigned to diagnose and rectify the sight lines throughout the grandstand, besides managing design of the state of art Royal Enclosure for His Highness and the royal family.
It was altogether a memorable and different experience to have worked with the specialists like Arup and curtain wall specialists Nihon Sekkei from Japan.
The firm gave me ample other opportunities to flourish my master planning design skills in the project of EEC - Emirates Equestrian Centre together with a 75 acre of exclusive high end Associate housing, also to mention the Banyan Tree Resort and Spa in the proximity of Grandstand at Nad Al Sheba, Dubai.
It is worth mentioning about the world's first ever dine in theatre, Meydan Outdoor Desert Theatre at Bab Al Sham, with a capacity of 6000 persons, that has already completed its phase I in march 2008. I had been the senior member of a very small design team of 03 architects designated to complete the fast track project in a record time as directed by His Highness to meet the deadline of a launch ceremony of Horse Race World Cup 2008.
I consider myself to be fortunate to work on a Fortune Blossom 101, a 500m over high rise tower in the Business Bay - new business districtof Dubai. Our team had joined ventured with Nihon Sekkei from Japan to conceptualize a unique blossomed form of structure. During several design workshops held with our Japanese counterparts, I learned a great deal in designing a fluid curving structures with an efficient and functional rectilinear cores.
as senior design architect (2008-2009) - In July 2008, I was offered an opportunity from Sama Dubai (members of Dubai Holdings), to join their in house design development team for iconic developments around many parts of the world. As a manager of newly recruited design development team, I consider the present role as a new challenge. To start with I have been managing design development and technical coordination on projects in Yiti, Oman - Design Development of Golf Residential Villas in a traditional architectural outlook, and the Mix Use Development in Amwaj, Morocco, again in a traditional stylization.
After all those years of professional practice, I feel that there has been a steady progress in my career. I always look up to new endeavors to learn more in life.
