An organization dedicated to the continuation of the mission set by Lord Baden-Powell, the Boy Scouts of America, Baltimore Area Council (BAC) helps prepare youths to make sound and ethical choices that will help them lead healthy lives. Managed by Scout Executive Ethan Draddy, the BAC oversees over 900 Boy Scout units throughout the Baltimore area, one of the 20 largest Boy Scouts of America councils in the nation, as well as one of the oldest. The BAC works closely with various educational, religious, civic, and business organizations in furthering the Boy Scouts of America mission. Ethan Draddy believes that any boy can become a Cub Scout or Boy Scout, regardless of his physical abilities, socioeconomic background, or family situation.
The BAC currently supports the Boy Scouts of America National Council as it celebrates its centennial in the 2010-2011 year. As part of a long-term strategy, Ethan Draddy and the BAC are currently working to expand and adjust membership to reflect the diverse and changing demographics of the Baltimore area. Plans employed by the BAC include new web strategies offering their services to Generation X and Millennial parents, increasing Venturing crews, improving the at-risk youth program, and developing a spring recruitment campaign. Such expansions require an involved leadership and quality activities, and Ethan Draddy dedicates a significant amount of effort to improving the Boy Scouts of America program in the Baltimore area.
