Polisher, Circuler, Heat Treater
Koch Metal Spinning Co.
I started off working in the polishing department taking any imperfections out of parts, that were primarily aluminum, while keeping the thickness of the metal within the set tolerance of the particular part. I then was moved to the Circling and Heat Treating department where I was learning how to heat treat and circle. The Heat Treating involved working with pure sodium heated to close to 1000 degrees, I had to make sure parts were in the salt bath for the allotted time and no longer depending on the part as well as filling out all paperwork accurately. The Heat Treating also involved using a Grieve oven in much the same way as using the salt bath. The circling consisted of setting up the machine to cut the material to the required size on a job by job basis usually within a few thousandths of an inch and checking the parts periodically with calipers.
