Teaching Composition
Teach musical composition and arranging to middle school students using paper and pencil, Sibelius and Noteflight notation software, Garageband software, the "Inside Music" program, and the Music-COMP online mentoring program.   Inspire students to participate in the Music-COMP Opus competition, in which they correspond with a professional composer on their work in progress for two months via. a password protected website, and submit a final piece for the competition. I have had 3 winners in the past 4 years.
Instrumental Music
Collaborate with Burr and Burton Academy's high school band/orchestra director to improve student performance. Develop strategies to teach blind flute student and mentor beginning flutists. I have also coached an oboist through successful college auditions. (2010-present)   Created a concert band program at Maple Street School, which now includes >25% of grades 4-6, 50% of whom receive free private instruction from high school students through the mentoring program I started. In 2012, the first student auditioned for district concert band and was accepted to perform in the music festival. (2009-present)   Student teaching placements included middle school band and orchestra, and high school band, percussion ensemble, jazz band, and music theory. (2009)
