Habitat for Humanity has tackled housing challenges for nearly 40 years with the help of volunteers like Eric Thomas Grissen. More than 800,000 homes have been built or repaired through the organization, and Eric Thomas Grissen has volunteered with the construction of five of the homes. Recently, Habitat for Humanity partnered with the Philippines’ housing authority to help families who lost their homes in November 2013 to Typhoon Haiyan. The organization has committed to building 852 houses in Tacloban, a city in the Philippines. Prior to the partnership, Habitat for Humanity provided emergency shelters and shelter repair kits to more than 10,000 families, and they continue to do so as the community undergoes rebuilding. In the United States, The Home Depot Foundation joined Habitat for Humanity to help improve homes for military veterans throughout 2014. The Repair Corp program conducts home repairs and renovations, provides affordable housing, and makes necessary accommodations such as wheelchair ramps and customized doorways for veterans and their families.
