Management of Data Center Infrastructure Team, New Construction Team, and Enterprise-wide Projects

  • Managed 22 professionals responsible for all infrastructure, network, and server support for a 36,000 square foot data center supporting over 1200 Unix, Windows, Linux, IBM, Cisco, Juniper, and Mainframe devices.
  • Responsible for the Dallas data center telephony and server hardware and indirectly managed 4 other U.S. data centers (approximately 200,000 sqft.)
  • Developed and monitored SLAs, common processes and procedures, and metrics to identify and take corrective action in order to improve customer satisfaction ratings and time-to-market numbers.
  • Developed change management rules and procedures as it relates to hardware and infrastructure changes in order to increase availability and assist in SAS70 audit approvals.
  • Championed compliance with information security standards within the Data Center, resulting in ISO 20000 certification.
  • Managed large on-site warehouse, and was accountable for all critical inventory, to insure all hardware outages had critical spares on-site for quick remediation.
  • Conducted several presentations to potential clients explaining the inner-workings and criticality of the data center and Network Operations Centers (NOC).
  • Audited over two million square feet of new construction to verify use and implementation of company standards regarding cabinets, cable management, cable specifications, infrastructure layout, and vendor execution.
  • Program/Project managed the implementation of new workflows, new cable demarcations, equipment and room restacks, new technology and application implementations, as well as new corporate standard implementations.

Eric Welch was a leader within Associa's IT management team, working closely with the CIO to help guide enterprise technology initiatives.  Previously, Eric was director of data center operations for Fidelity Investments. He provided strategic direction, management leadership, and project management to all four data centers. Prior to that, he led 5 regional managers responsible for desktop and application support for Fidelity's 401K call centers. Eric received an MBA from The University of Dallas and a bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at El Paso. Some of Eric's recent accomplishments are: • Developed new process workflows and procedures for server and network installations which resulted in 60% improvement in deliver times.  • Developed several procedures and standards relating to change management rules and practices eliminating local outages and increasing the uptime and reliability within the other 3 data centers. • Managed a $20M budget and successfully reduced it 60% by re-using existing infrastructure and re-designing configurations. • Developed common process models for all data centers, to insure proper installations and redundancy in order to eliminate single-points-of-failure and reduce hardware downtime.  • Designed new SAN infrastructure cabling methodology for Fidelity’s state-of-the-art data center.
