Clinical Support Specialist

United Methodist Family Services

As a CSS worker for UMFS, I provide add on mental health services to children in the treatment foster care system. I help these children and families build positive coping skills while working through their difficult histories. My role for these clients ranges from individual support sessions, attending groups as support for the children, and writing reports to record the clients' progress toward the goals set for them by the state.

Coordinator

Piedmont Community Health Coalition

The position of coordinator required that I network with the community to promote wellness through healthy eating and active living. I also fostered relationships with community health organizations to build up the coalition. My work primarily revolved around strategic marketing of the coalition and creating organizational plans as well as building databases and networks for communication of resources across the coalition. I also worked with grant funding to pay for coalition events and participate in all aspects of the coalition's administrative tasks. I managed grant reporting on a quarterly basis to keep the state informed on the coalition's spending. I also took on the role of supervisor for the Piedmont Out Walking Support Team, which consisted of a student intern and a paid staff person. This position entailed overseeing the staff's schedules and assigning daily tasks that were reviewed by me weekly.

The Broyles Family

During my leave from classes, I took on a family with 4 boys as my charges. The boys ranged from ages 4-14 and on of whom lived with a congenital heart condition that required special care. My responsibilities included insuring that the school aged boys made it to their respective school buses on time, basic cleaning and tidying, preparing meals and snacks, entertaining and teaching the youngest child during the day, and picking up the school aged boys from their schools and bus stops.
