Medical Operations Officer, 34th CST (WMD)

Virginia Army National Guard

·Responsible for the identification of medical assets and their capabilities in regards to disaster and CBRNE response within the Commonwealth of Virginia.

·Establish and maintain communication with Incident Response medical services to ensure all involved parties are aware of the Health and Safety ramifications of the suspected material.

·Maintain certifications for Hazardous Material Technician, Additional Duty Safety, Composite Risk Management, and Environmental Compliance.

·Act as the OSHA compliance and Safety officer to ensure safety measures are met and maintained at all times.

·Act as Environmental Compliance Officer to ensure all Medical and CBRNE waste is disposed of properly.

·Responsible for the overall health of unit members.

·Liaison to Military Treatment facilities to assist unit members in receiving appropriate physicals to maintain Hazardous Materials Technician certification.

·Act as Deputy Quality Manager for ISO 17025 laboratory compliance, unit is in year one of certification process.

Executive Officer 127th ASMC / Recruiting & Retention

Alabama Army National Guard
  • Recruited Soldiers currently in the National Guard across the southeastern region of the State of Alabama to attend Officer Candidate School (OCS).
  • Assisted ROTC cadets at the University of South Alabama with balancing their school requirements with their NG requirements.
  • Coordinated a recruitment presence at unit assemblies to brief Soldiers on the benefits of attending OCS and receiving their commission. 
  • Attended recruiting events at the University to assist with assessing current college and high school seniors into the ROTC program.
  • Established and maintained working relationships with multiple unit Commanders.
  • Ensured accomplishment of the unit’s mission to provide Echelon I and II medical care in contingency operations and war.
  • Responsible for the care and readiness of 85 personnel and over $4 million in unit equipment.
  • Implemented the Commander's plans, orders, SOPs, risk management, family support, strength management, and Soldier career management are fully developed and implemented.
  • Assigned as the Safety officer to ensure safety measures are met and maintained at all times.
  • Assigned as the Maintenance Officer to ensure all OSHA and State laws and regulations were adhered to in the military vehicle parking area and maintenance facility.
  • Achieved and maintained certifications for Safety Officer, Composite Risk Management, Defensive Driving, Convoy Safety, Range Safety, and Ordnance Branch Qualification.
  • Successfully completed the Health Services, Plans, Operations, Intelligence, Security and Training course.

Executive Officer, 128th Med Co (Ground Ambulance)

  • I was responsible for 73 personnel and over $5 million in assets across 8 geographically distinct locations, including administrative functions and logistics from ammunition issuance to payroll administration.
  • I received the Bronze Star for the lateral transfer of $3 million of theater provided military equipment to multiple geographically-disperse recipients in less than 60 days.
  • I maintained response readiness for 24 HMMWV Ambulances.
  • I established and maintained working relationship with Combat Support Hospitals in a combat zone. 
  • I coordinated movement of personnel and equipment across multiple countries as Unit Movement Officer.
  • I established and enforced all OSHA safety standards as Safety and Maintenance Officer.
  • I managed logistics for $4.9 million in unit equipment. 
  • I managed all classified items as Security Officer and Classified Courier.
  • I maintained approximately 50 monthly reports for higher command including:

- Maintenance readiness and inventory

- Security and communication status

- Supply and ammunition inventory

- Chemical/Biological/Radiological/Nuclear/Explosive (CBRNE) readiness and inventory

  • Recruited medical professionals for the National Guard across the southeastern region of the continental United States.
  • Established and maintained working relationships with State Recruiters.
  • Established a good rapport with medical programs at regional universities administrative departments. 

  • Assisted the Alabama State Medical Recruiter with the accession of 15 people in less than 12 months.

  • Responsible for 32 personnel and over $800k in assets including administrative and logistic functions from medical supply to vehicle maintenance.
  • Responsible for establishing and utilizing medical resources during emergency response operations.
  • Identified over $200k in critical equipment shortages and submitted funding request to achieve minimal readiness standards.
  • Successfully acquired adequate storage space for the platoon equipment and organized the equipment by vehicle so as to allow for rapid deployment in the event of emergency response operations.
  • Supported soldier education and self-improvement by ensuring platoon members were aware of the benefits available to them. 
  • Responsible for the health and welfare of the individual soldiers assigned to my section.
  • Reviewed and/or created safety plans for the section to include vehicle safety in regards to patient loading/unloading, proper methods of conducting vehicle inspections and equipment loading.
  • Successfully completed the Medical Service Corps Branch Qualification.

  • Assisted the Intelligence Officer with gathering information requested and presenting it in a logical format for dissemination.
  • Assisted the Range Safety Officer during unit weapon qualifications by ensuring the range safety plan was briefed to all personnel before allowing access to the range.
  • Assisted the Senior NCO in charge of developing an emergency response plan.
  • Assisted fellow cadets with drill attendance by carpooling and helping with missed drill paperwork. 
  • Assisted NG Recruiter assigned to the University of South Alabama with recruiting new cadets.

I am a Bronze Star recipient and decorated Officer with over 14 years of active duty military experience. I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of South Alabama. I have significant CBRN experience in Medical Operations, Incident Management and Domestic Response.I have skills and experience in Health Services Administration, Plans, Operations, Safety and Security. I have actively fought the global war on terrorism in Iraq as the Executive Officer of a Ground Ambulance Company. I hold an active Secret Clearance.  My military awards include: Iraq Campaign Medal, the Kosovo Campaign Medal, NATO, National Defense Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Superior Unit Citation, and Good Conduct Medal.
