Research Topic: Particle image depth measurement by using an entry model plenoptic camera

Summary: The plenoptic camera provides information about how a scene would look like when viewed from a continuum of possible viewpoints bounded by the main lens aperture. By extracting information about both horizontal and vertical parallax the depth information can be estimated simply with improved reliability than in a binocular stereo system. In this paper, results of depth measurement of some fixed 3D targets and PIV results of particles are presented using “Lytro”, a consumer plenoptic camera. An optimized calibration equation for the camera is proposed which is then utilized to perform PIV analysis on particle images taken by the camera.

Research Topic: Particle path based tomographic image velocimetry

Summary: Particle path based image velocimetry was developed for 3D volumetric velocity measurement of fluid flows by tomographic reconstruction of 3D particle paths. Though, popular in the earlier 2D PIV days, inherent issues such as directional ambiguity rapidly made this techniques obsolete. Presently, it employs novel techniques based on 3D particle paths tomographic reconstruction. whose velocity recovery results match the current 3D tomographic particle tracking velocimetry.
