Recently featured in the September 2011 issue of Ebony Magazine, Engel Burns is the Federal Account Director of Government Affairs at Sunovion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. In Ebony magazine's article, Engel Burns discusses the dedication required to function as a Washington lobbyist and the fulfillment that can come from it.As a director at Sunovion, Engel Burns is responsible for leading the company’s national legislative initiatives such as protecting and advancing the company’s work in the treatment of central nervous system disorders and respiratory conditions. Engel D. Burns has spent more than 15 years working in the health care and marketing fields. He has been able to utilize this experience in his career in politics to ascend to the position that he currently holds. Engel Burns also holds membership in the Council of Corporate Advisors for Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc.Beginning his professional career in politics nearly two decades ago, Engel Burns was the Director of the Citizens for Burns campaign in 1994. As the leader of the successful effort, Engel Burns was an invaluable member of the team that helped elect Dr. Emmett C. Burns Jr. to the Maryland General Assembly. As Campaign Director, Engel Burns was also responsible for event planning, fund raising, marketing, and public relations. He also helped shape local legislation in his community through his work as a legislative aide. Engel Burns has served as a liaison to the faith-based organizations in the community, and he has led the youth Ministry at Rising Sun First Baptist Church.
