I've worked in internal communication for 15 years, and benefitted from the commercial awareness developed by broad business exposure before that. I've built a real depth of expertise in tackling  the big communication challenges: mergers and acquisitions; rebranding; culture change; relocation; vision and values programmes; pensions changes; regulatory fines; PR disasters; business continuity events; and organisational restructures. I positively relish demanding projects shot through with uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity.  Of course, I've also led large and small communication teams on a day to day basis, managed core channels, set up communications air traffic control, replaced intranets, delivered  major events and so on - everything you'd expect. 

I'm a strategic thinker but I don't sit in an ivory tower; so you'll come across me running a focus group, proofing a magazine, building a leader's confidence, or serving coffee to an event attendee just as often as you'll find me writing a strategy. And you'll find I'm not a purist - 'does it work, does it move people?' is my question, not 'is the grammar and punctuation perfect?'

I like people; I welcome and invite their ideas, their input and their feedback. I'm easy to work with. I have an opinion and insights and I'll share them, but I don't sulk or create dramas if we choose to go a different way. I'm versatile - equally happy coaching and mentoring as a team leader, working collaboratively as part of the team or rolling up my sleeves and getting on with the planning and delivery myself. You'll find me dedicated, dynamic and determined. You'll be able to trust me and rely on me; I'll always deliver what I've promised.

Yorkshire Building Society Group

Yorkshire Building Society Group is the UK’s second largest building society and employs 5000 people working across multiple locations and brands. I have built and  continue to lead, a high performing internal communication team which has been critical in supporting the Group through a challenging period of rapid change, regulatory and environmental pressure and non-organic growth. Highlights include: communication and cultural alignment programmes for three mergers and one acquisition; development of a new strategic narrative including alignment to a new vision and co-creation of new organisational values; co-ordination of communication messaging for sixty simultaneous change projects per annum; head office relocation; organisational rebranding and launch of a new internal brand and employee value proposition.

Barclaycard is Europe’s leading credit card company. It employs over 10,000 colleagues and operates in more than 60 countries. Brand-led, it was a pioneer in understanding the critical role of colleague brand-alignment.   As a founder member of the team of 17, and acting as ‘second-in-command’, my role focused upon strategic communication planning and the ownership and delivery of major change communication programmes including:  rebranding; vision and values refresh; intranet replacement;  colleague recognition; internal living the brand programme.
