About - Emily Hershenson

Since 2008, Emily Hershenson has served the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda as a licensed independent clinical social worker. She took the position almost immediately after her graduation from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, where she studied social work. Emily Hershenson also participates in several professional organizations, advancing her career through continued study as well as regular writing. As a member of the Greater Washington Society for Clinical Social Work, she is among the contributors to the News & Views Book Corner, and studies at the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis as well.

Over the course of her career, Emily Hershenson has continually sought out professional challenges. At the National Institutes of Health social work conference in May of 2014, she spoke on interdisciplinary psychosocial management of a complex HIV/AIDS and cancer case. During her time as a graduate intern, she facilitated family meetings, supporting efforts to help teens in the foster care system. She has also provided supportive, insight-oriented counseling.
