About Me

An accomplished graphic design professional with over 15 years of experience, Emily Desear currently serves as Creative Director of Marketing for InStyle, a fashion magazine published by Time Inc. Emily Desear joined InStyle in February 2010. Her responsibilities include managing three full-time graphic designers and freelance copy writers while developing ambitious branding platforms for the magazine, ranging from print ads and custom video to sales materials. She directly contributed to the creation of The InStyle Boutique, a digital pop-up store that coincides with the year’s major issues. Actively contributing to numerous marketing projects, Emily Desear often works alongside the team that manages the marketing and promotions of In that capacity, she has helped to establish custom digital ad creative and online promotions for the magazine's digital advertisers . Prior to joining InStyle magazine, Emily Desear held the position of Design Director for Gourmet magazine. Her responsibilities included managing a team of two copywriters and four full-time graphic designers. Each year, Emily Desear oversaw the creation of more than 165 pages of custom advertising for the magazine. Recognized for her valuable contributions to the success of the magazine, she earned the Gourmet Magazine Marketer of the Year award in both 2006 and 2008. Emily Desear attended the Rhode Island School of Design and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. At the outset of her career, she served as a Designer for the Condé Nast Media Group. Emily Desear subsequently gained diverse experience through such positions as Freelance Designer for, Art Director for Maru León Design, and Promotional Art Director for GQ magazine. She currently lives in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Manage a creative team including 3 full-time graphic designers. Develop new branding platform for magazine including: custom video, print ads, marketing studies and sales materials. Collaborate with team to develop marketing materials + custom ad units for new digital initiatives including the launch of and the InStyle Hair App. Create digital pop-up store, The InStyle Boutique, as a platform marketing program to align with the largest issues of the year: September, December and March.
