Educational Philosophy

My education philosophy is that students need to be prepared for college, the global economy, 21st century citizenship, and continued learning throughout their lives.  Every student learns differently and has a unique set of needs which need to be addressed in order to have a successful education career.  Due to this, it is important to incorporate various teaching strategies, differentiated instruction, and to continue my personal growth and learning in order to remain current on the latest educational techniques and research.  Every student also brings their own personal background and experiences to each classroom which can contribute to the learning environment as well as the learning of others in a positive manner.  It is also important to stress the value of education on every student as well as their family members.  By working together toward the same goal, the education experience will be very powerful and strengthened greatly.

As the school librarian, I play an integral role in achieving the goals of students being prepared for college, the global economy, 21st century citizenship, and continued learning throughout their lives.  I am an instructional partner who collaborates with other members of the school community to develop assignments, lessons, projects, and curricula which will incorporate learning standards, critical thinking skills, and technology and information literacy skills through differentiated instruction.  I am the information specialist who helps every member of the school community to use technology in such a way that it supplements learning, encourages creativity, connects the teachers and students to the global community, and provides 24-7 access to library resources as well as the responsibility to become an expert in the realm of copyright and the ethical use of information.  I am a teacher who models and encourages administrators, teachers, and students in researching, using information ethically, critical thinking, information literacy, and a love of reading.  Finally, I am a program administrator who develops programs, collections, strategic plans, policies, and budgets as well as managing staff members, physical spaces, and equipment as well as building strong relationships inside and outside of the physical structure of the school.
