Summary

My name is Elizabeth Horn and I am a senior at Valhalla High School.  I am planning on attending a four year university after graduating high school.  My top colleges are Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Scripps, and Biola.  I am not sure what career I would pursue, but I am interested in majoring in applied math.

Two of my favorite activities are swimming and art.  I have been a member of the VHS varsity swim team since freshman year.  I also swim on a year round club team through Heartland swim Association.  Swimming on a club team have given me a competitive sport to be involved in, a close group of friends, as well as a value for hard work and time management.  I also enjoy art.  Art allows me to express myself creatively especially in my AP Art class I had the opportunity to take past year.

I have also been very involved with my church's youth group throughout high school.  This past summer I had an amazing experience volunteering at Indian Hills Camp through my church with many of the other high schoolers from my youth group.

Interests and Community Service

Indian Hills Camp:

300 hours- This past summer I volunteered on staff at Indian Hills Camp for 5 weeks.  During this time I worked with the kids as well as doing other work projects at the camp.  This was a really neat experience because I was able to serve God and grow in my faith, be encouraged spiritually by my friends, as well as work with kids.

Sonshine Club:

30+hours- Every Wednesday last school year and this year, I have been volunteering at a Christian club after school at Jamacha Elementary School.  I enjoy doing this because I love working with kids and having the opportunity to share my faith with them.

Heartland Summer League Coaching:

Last summer, I worked as a summer league swim coach through Heartland Swim Association.  Though difficult at first, it turned out to be a valuable experience that taught me to go out of my comfort zone.  As this was my first experience working with kids, through coaching I was able to realize how much I enjoy it.

Nicaragua:

This past summer, I had the opportunity to go on a missions trip to Nicaragua for a week with my church's youth group. We helped run a VBS for the children there was well as serving them meals and working on various projects.  It was a really eye opening experience because I was able to serve God and others in new ways and be exposed to another culture where people live so simply yet are so joyful.
