Edward Rutledge, MD, has been a physician for three dozen years. Although a head injury curtailed his career as a surgeon in 2005, he currently serves as Chief Medical Doctor for Physicians Group LLC in Minnesota’s Twin Cities. Edward Rutledge, MD, began specializing in orthopedic surgery during his 1976-1980 residency at Bronson Methodist Hospital and Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He also taught classes as an Instructor in Surgery in the Michigan State University Department of Surgery. Following this training, Edward Rutledge, MD, pursued a fellowship in orthopaedic trauma at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.During the start of the Gulf War era, Dr. Rutledge volunteered as an Instructor with the nonprofit group Orthopaedics Overseas and was sent to serve at an Afghan trauma hospital in a refugee camp outside Peshawar, Pakistan.While practicing at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of Hennepin County Medical Center, Dr. Rutledge was also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota.Dr. Rutledge earned his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry followed by his MD from Indiana University in Indianapolis, and he has been honored with an American Medical Association Physician Recognition Award. His professional affiliations include the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, the Minnesota Medical Association, the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, the Twin Cities Medical Society, and the Vanderbilt Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Rutledge supports the USO, Disabled American Veterans, The Salvation Army, The Nature Conservancy, The Humane Society of the United States, and Minnesota Public Radio. His leisure pursuits include playing classical and jazz piano and reading history books.
