Greensboro College

Lab Image / Support Technician

My responsibilities included everything required to run a small college campus. Technical support, network cabling, maintaining 5 classroom sized computer labs, printer repair, training, etc. I worked as one of 4 people on the IT staff, maintaining the health of all staff, faculty, and student workstations. Working with Scott Fulton, the System's Administrator, I gained an understanding of Linux servers in a large user base environment.

  • Developed strong interpersonal skills by working directly with professors and staff to deliver their IT needs
  • Learned about running production Debian Linux servers
  • Learned efficient ways to secure and image lab workstations using Group Policy and Symantec GhostCast

  • VMware vSphere 3.5 - 6.0

  • Used vCloud Director v5.1 - v5.5 to rapidly deploying lab environments

Familiar with all OpenStack services including Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Glance, Keystone, Swift, Ceilometer, Heat, Ironic, and others.  I have manually deployed Openstack and created the service linkages and I have also used automated deployment tools such as Puppet to accomplish the same.  I have used Heat to deploy stacks of instances.

I've taken the CCNA course and I regularly use Cisco IOS commands to track down issues with hardware configurations.  I have set up and configured SDN solutions using different overlay technologies such as VXLAN and GRE tunnels for network segmentation.  I know how to subnet, read access lists, and diagnose simple and complex networking issues on the bottom 3 layers.

Admin experience with EMC XtremIO, SolidFire, Dell Compellent, and NetApp Storage Arrays.  Fiber Channel and iSCSI configurations.  I have also deployed Ceph clusters to provide block and file storage for our OpenStack environments.  I have also integrated directly with SolidFire using OpenStack Cinder.

Experience with using Puppet, Chef, and Ansible tools to deploy OpenStack.  PowerShell and PowerCLI experience for VMware.   Python and Heat to deploy within OpenStack.  I have dabbled with Javascript in order to integrate HTML5 console connectivity for vCloud and OpenStack.
