Dr. Oberschneider has worked as a mental health professional in a variety of settings over the years (please see his attached biography) including: several hospitals, outpatient faclities and private practices.  Dr. Oberschneider is presently the owner and director of Ashburn Psychological Services.

Ashburn Psychological Services is the premiere clinical psychology and psychiatry practice serving Northern Virginia and surrounding areas.  Dedicated to excellence in psychological and psychiatric practice, Ashburn Psychological Services offers a wide array of diagnostic, psychotherapy, medication and consultation services for children, adolescents, adults and families.

Ashburn Psychological Services (APS) is comprised of some of the area's leading MD's and PhD's for the assessment and treatment of mental health concerns and conditions.  APS is comprised of board certified pediatric, child, adolescent, adult, geriatric and forensic psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, neuropsychologists, auditory processing specialists and life coaches.  APS has the only two neuropsychologists in all of Loudoun County.  These highly trained evaluators assess for:  ADHD, learning disabilities, Autism, Asperser’s Disorder, emotional conditions, personality disorders and other brain based and developmental conditions. APS has a highly credentialed team of psychiatrists who prescribe medications (when needed) to 2 years of age through the life span. APS has several PhD level therapists who are highly credentialed and skilled in providing pediatric, child, adolescent and adult individual therapy, couples therapy, marriage counseling, group therapy, workshops, parenting work and consultations in several other areas. APS provides a variety of forensic services including: custody evaluations, separation and divorce work/coordination and criminally related evaluations. Ashburn Psychological Services is a comprised of a multidisciplinary assessment and treatment team.  Thus, our clinicians will work closely with each other and you to coordinate care put together the best approach for you.  Inasmuch as we have such a highly credentialed team of specialists with complimentary skill sets, your treatment will be tailored to your individual needs and your concerns will be addressed with state of art treatment and the highest standards of care.


Dr. Oberschneider received Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology from GeorgeWashingtonUniversity and his B.S. in Psychology from NorthwesternUniversity. Upon completion of his degree, he completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the PennsylvaniaHospital of the University of Pennsylvania Health Systems. This advanced training involved in-patient and out-patient consultation, treatment and evaluation rotations. Dr. Oberschneider has spent the past 10 years working as a psychologist in a variety of capacities with children, adolescents and adults. Dr. Oberschneider has practiced as a staff psychologist at an in-patient hospital unit, the United States Justice Department, the City of Alexandria (Youth and Family Services) and in private practice.

Dr. Oberschneider is an independent syndicated columnist for the Washington Post and has been featured on TV as a mental health expert.He has published several articles in prestigious academic journals including: Clinical Child Psychiatry and Psychology, the Archives of Sexual Behavior, and the Bulletin of the Menninger Clinic. He has presented at national conventions, such as the American Psychological Association, Division 39, Annual Meeting and received honorary awards for his published work.Dr. Oberschneider has had additional psychotherapy and assessment training at the following: Children's NationalMedicalCenter, The DC Superior Courts, HowardUniversityCounselingCenter, the Speech and Language Center of Northern Virginia, the Center Clinic of the GeorgeWashingtonUniversity, the N Street Village Residential Facility, the Baltimore Washington Center of Psychoanalysis and the Pennsylvania Center of Psychoanalysis.

Dr. Oberschneider is a member of the American Psychological Association, Virginia Psychological Association, WISER (Washington Independent Services for Educational Resources) and CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder). He is also the Chief Mental Health Advisor for the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance of Northern Virginia, the IdealSchools of Northern Virginia and the Classical Ballet Academy of Herndon.In 2009, Dr. Oberschneider was awarded the esteemed �Top Psychologist� ranking in the Washingtonian Magazine for his outstanding work with children and adolescents.
