An experienced surgeon in Little Rock, Arkansas, Dr. John Rowen has treated American patients for nearly 15 years. Previously, he provided consultations to patients in Ontario, Canada, and Birmingham, England. In his professional capacity, Dr. John Rowen frequently assists patients with gastroesophageal reflux, acid reflux disease, and various cancers, such as breast, lung, colon, and thyroid. He also provides expertise in gallbladder and general surgery.Before relocating to the United States, Dr. John Rowen conducted research and co-authored five articles, which appeared in peer-reviewed journals, including The American Journal of Surgery, the Canadian Journal of Surgery, and the American Journal of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Rowen's papers include “Induction of hyperparathyroidism by radioactive iodine” and “Combination chemotherapy with teniposide (VM26) and carboplatin in small cell lung cancer.”Early in his career, Dr. John Rowen gave presentations at multiple medical conferences and academic forums. He spoke on chest trauma, thoracic surgery, and surgical correction of coarctation of the aorta, among other topics.Dr. John Rowen moved to South Dakota in the mid-1990s to teach medical students at the University of South Dakota. After three years, he relocated to Battle Creek, Michigan, to act as Medical Director at Integrated Health Partners. He then spent several years in Richmond, Virginia, at Cardiothoracic Surgical Associates, before founding his Little Rock private practice. In his academic endeavors, Dr. Rowen earned an undergraduate degree in chemistry from McMaster University in Ontario and then completed his medical degree at the University of Toronto. Next, he served as a straight surgery intern at Toronto General Hospital and a general surgery resident at the University of Toronto. Additionally, he provided leadership as the Chief Resident in general thoracic and vascular surgery at St. Joseph’s Health Centre Toronto. Dr. John Rowen completed his formal training at England’s East Birmingham Hospital (now Heartlands Hospital), where he served as a Clinical Fellow in thoracic surgery.
