Achievements Showcase

  • Turned around Holt Renfrew's flagging marketplace by driving a bottom-up sales and assortment planning process, leading "The Fashion Spectrum Project," and educating management teams nation-wide. Returned a profit within 365 days.
  • Mandated to perform a national review for Tip Top Tailors to reduce manpower, increase accountability, and deliver skill-building education. Reduced 38 management positions to nine, thereby reducing expenses by 15%. Improved communication, sales results, and quality of feedback across the nation.
  • Handpicked to oversee the implementation of a fully-mechanized merchandising system for Holt Renfrew. Achieved deadlines, which resulted in improved stock turns and gross margin management; reduced working capital and improved "fact-based" decision-making.
  • Created and led a global marketing program called "Discovery," part of a complex merger between Nuance Global Traders and Allders Duty Free. Produced a series of point-of-sale materials that "told a product story" to travelling customers. Increased sales/margins and improved stakeholder partnerships.
  • Hired by the president of Etac Sales to join Brettons, a newly-acquired division that lacked a management team and formal operating structure. Developed the strategic plan, mission statement, business profile, and customer target. Executed this plan which received full Board approval.
  • Purchased Body Shop franchise after rigorous due diligence. Performed a complete review of the business with particular emphasis on people and merchandise. Increased sales by 30% in the first 18 months. Bought a second location; repeated the process.
  • Co-created Holt Renfrew's customer service excellence program that incorporated five standards of behavioural excellence. Rolled out a meticulous staff educational initiative across the organization. Service levels increased significantly.
  • Played a key role in the business merger between Allder's Duty Free and Nuance Global Traders.  Helped to define the management structure of the new comppany and identified opportunities for cost savings and economies of scale. Introduced best practices across the global organization.

A global retailer operating in 50 countries with more than 2,000 stores selling skin and hair products inspired by nature; Body Shop is the 27th most recognized brand in the world.

Develop and execute business plans to achieve sales objectives for both franchise locations. Maintain operating standards and create brand awareness in the local market. Provide leadership to a staff of 25.


Nuance Global Traders/Allders Duty Free

With its presence on no fewer than five continents, Nuance offers an extensive network of travel retail operations. As the world's largest airport retailer, Nuance has operations in Angola, Austria, Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Ireland, Macau, Malta, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the UK and the USA.



Reporting directly to the President of North America, assumed purchasing budgets in excess of $100M and sales targets of $120M. Accountable for merchandising of all categories of duty free and travel retail shops across several distribution channels including airports, cruise ships, resort shops, and downtown department stores. Concurrently executed merchandising strategies and financial planning for the worldwide fashion category. Played a key role in the acquisition of Allders Duty Free.



Canada's first choice for menswear, operating in nine provinces and boasting a 90-year heritage of quality and service.

Responsible for operations and financial results for 138 stores Canada-wide.Reported to the President; provided leadership for 1400 geographically dispersed staff. Managed a $4M expense budget. Contributed to change management during bankruptcy proceedings of Dylex. Member of Executive Committee.



Brettons Department Stores

A high-end department store in Canada from 1985 to 1996, with a focus on high-margin, high-turn merchandise.

Reporting directly to the Chairman, provided senior leadership for nine department stores across Canada. Developed and implemented business strategies during turnaround. Managed company takeover from Etac Sales. Served as a Member of Executive Committee, Member of Board of Directors, and Company Secretary.



Holt Renfrew

Canada's leading fashion specialty department store for men and women.

(1988 - 1993)

Provided leadership for 12 stores across Canada. Developed sales and assortment plans, profit targets, and succession and business development plans. Reported to the Vice Chairman and directed a staff of 1000.
