About Dr. Elliot Gruen

Although he is headquartered in Massachusetts, Dr. Elliot Gruen practices general psychiatry in association with St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, Maine. During his time there over the past two decades, he has worked with both adult and adolescent patients, and he treats many patients for substance abuse. Prior to this, Dr. Elliot Gruen served as a psychiatric aide at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine, where he conducted both one-on-one and group therapy.

Dr. Elliot Gruen began his formal training at Colby College, where he studied a range of topics related to the history of psychology and experimental psychology as an undergraduate. After graduating, he received further training at Pace University as a nurse practitioner and in osteopathic medicine. Dr. Elliot Gruen was then admitted to the New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine, where his foundational psychiatric training included clinical rotations at facilities such as Jackson Brook Hospital. Later, he completed a residency the University of Massachusetts in Worcester, during which time he served as chief resident and worked with a number of state hospitals in the surrounding area.
