With 35 years of experience as a practitioner of podiatric medicine, Dr. Andrew Carver has consistently proven himself as a forward-thinking foot doctor who utilizes the most advanced methods and technology. In the early eighties, when CO2 lasers were being introduced into the field, Dr. Carver was of the physicians who initially accepted the new tool into his practice.
Around the turn of the century, Andrew Carver, DPM, became interested in Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) and now is one of just a handful of physicians to have the recently introduced EMS Swiss DolorClast shock wave machines in his Washington, D.C., office. ESWT is considered a state-of-the-art technique for relieving heel pain and Achilles tendonitis, speeding bone growth, and curing several other foot conditions. Dr. Andrew Carver also uses one of the only Nomir cold lasers in his region. The laser is used for the treatment of fungal nail diseases. Andrew Carver, DPM, has also taken his own steps in advancing the level of technological development in the podiatric field, playing a key role in the invention and development of the Weil-Carver Hammertoe Implant. Hammertoe is a condition where the one or more of the toes are excessively bent at the joints. It can be caused a number of ways. Up until recently, one of the most common remedies involved the surgical implantation of wires that protruded from the end of the patient’s toe by half an inch. The method was uncomfortable and could cause pain or infection. However, the Weil-Carver Implant, used by the foot doctor, is placed beneath the skin, and requires no removal surgery, as the implant will dissolve into sugar and water within 12 weeks. It is currently used by doctors worldwide.
With an enthusiasm for sports medicine, Dr. Andrew Carver has acted as Team Podiatrist to pro-basketball team the Golden State Warriors and the former USFL football team the Oakland Invaders. Dr. Carver has also worked one-on-one with world famous athletes. He names Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Andre Agassi, Jerry Rice, and Timmy Hardaway as former clients. Dr. Andrew Carver founded the San Francisco Marathon Clinic and has acted as the Podiatric Consultant to the Honolulu Marathon Clinic.
