The Queens Library is a highly urban public library, with 61 branches, a Central Library, and a bookmobile.It primarily serves residents of the Borough of Queens and is a not-for-profit corporation.

  • Provide direction of oversight to the central library, community libraries, and technical services.
  • Developed service plans for budget reduction.
  • Provide public service direction to Capital & Facilities Management Department for extensive renovation of the central library and of many community libraries.
  • Co-lead "Blue Sky" project, an employee-driven process to improve customer service at Queens Library.

  • Provide direction and oversight to the 61 community libraries (branches) of the Queens Library. Directly supervise the department’s Assistant Director, Departmental Assistant, and Secretary. The department includes more than 1,000 employees, of whom approximately 260 are librarians.
  • Successfully implemented return of six-day service in 2008, using a combination of overtime and hiring.
  • Provide public service direction to Capital & Facilities Management Department for planned renovations to each of the 61 Queens community libraries.
  • Work with staff to provide excellent library service during conversion to RFID technology.
  • Achieve highest possible circulation and usage at each community library.

Dallas Public Library is an urban public library system, with 23 branches, a Central Library, and a bookmobile. It serves residents of the City of Dallas and is a department of the City of Dallas.

  • Provided oversight and direction to Central public service managers: Business & Technology; Circulation Services; Current Collection/ General Reference; Fine Arts; Government Information Center; History & Social Sciences (including Genealogy); Humanities; and Texas/Dallas History & Archives/Fine Books. Supervised 6 public service managers.Provide Public Service direction and assistance to Interlibrary Loan Center Manager.
  • Provided oversight and direction to Branch public service managers of 5 branch libraries, including one joint use library (with Dallas Independent School District).Supervised 3 public service managers.
  • Advised and assisted managers with all Human Resources functions, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, performance evaluation, coaching, formal discipline (including termination), Reduction in Force, and workers’ compensation.Provided direct assistance and liaison with both Human Resources and Civil Service Departments.
  • Prepared and monitored Central materials budget of at least $1.1 million; monitor materials budgets of 5 branches.
  • Provided public service direction for renovations of Central library floors, renovated branch libraries, and new branch libraries.
  • Resolved facilities issues in the 646,000 square foot Central Library and at 5 branch libraries.
  • Streamlined recruitment of professional and other public service staff; increased retention and staff morale.
  • Served as a leader of the team developing the Library's Master Plan, 10-year blueprint for services, collections, and facilities.
  • Developed current Community Development Block Grant funded ESL program at one branch library.Assure compliance with CDBG Commission.
  • Resolved patron concerns for Central library, for system-wide circulation issues, and for system-wide Interlibrary Loan concerns.
  • Worked directly with the City Manager’s Office, the Municipal Library Board, and the Friends of the Dallas Public Library, Inc. on library initiatives and projects.
  • Developed and interpreted library policy.

  • Administered and directed service in a 2,200 square foot branch library owned by the City of Humble and operated by Harris County. Managed staff of 1 librarian and 3 FTE clerks.
  • Increased circulation and turnover rate each year.
  • Developed outreach program to African-American community.
  • Represented the Library in community meetings, including civic clubs and City Council.
  • Appointed by County Librarian (Director) to system-wide policy review and development committee. Reviewed all library policies. Revised library policies as appropriate.
