  • Conducting adolescent viral hepatitis grant program activities including: hepatitis B vaccine surveys, data collection, and outreach to facilities and programs that serve adolescents.
  • Facilitating provider education about prevention and treatment of viral hepatitis in formal and informal settings.
  • Promoting and providing educational opportunities for adolescents to learn about hepatitis prevention and risk reduction.
  • Facilitating opportunities to vaccinate adolescents against hepatitis B.
  • Use of Geographic Information System technology to map youth hepatitis B programming overlaid with hepatitis B disease burden in the State of Connecticut. This work was used in a poster presentation given by a colleague at the Centers for Disease Control in 2004.

  • Immunizations of staff, volunteers, and residents using standing order protocols to increase vaccine coverage.

Assisted in behavioral health research on the injection practices of intravenous drug users for the viral hepatitis/AIDS surveillance section of the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health. Conducted research on the incidence of PTSD and other mental health issues and access to mental health care in Connecticut for returning soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan. Conducted qualitative research on the homecoming experience of Connecticut veterans using a structured interview tool that I developed. This research has been accepted for presentation at the Force Health Protection conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico in August 2009. Developing community partnerships and designing forum elements for a veterans forum at Manchester Community College to be held in Fall 2009.

Coach of Vernon Center Middle School Cross-country team for 3 years (1997-1999) serving grades six through eight, and completed Connecticut Coaching certificate course at Eastern Connecticut State University during this tenure.
