Work experience

Stockroom Assistant

This was a weekend position while I was in full time education. Selecting customer orders from the warehouse and loading them to the collection area. I also had an element of stock taking and sorting of incoming deliveries.

Affleck Electrical

I was learning the electrical trade which then progressed to carrying out various domestic, commercial and industrial electrical work. I also went on to taking and learning an interest in data work. This helped me complete my apprenticeship with Affleck Electrical.

Facilities Electrician (Manager)

Best Western Plus Blunsdon House Hotel

I can only describe my role at Blunsdon House Hotel to be very very versatile. The hotel now has very few sub contractors that are involved in the up keep of the hotel.  I was originally employed as an electrician, I then went on to learn many skills and trades which In turn saves the company thousands every year. "Why get someone else to do what you can do yourself". I carry out all logged repairs and PPM via an In house computer system. It is my duty to make sure preventative maintenance is completed within time scales. I also oversee the planning and construction of any refurbishment project. Liaising with colleagues and specialist contractors to complete projects within budget and set timescales.  It is in my job description to make sure that all equipment used within the premises is PAT tested for the safety of its staff and customers. It's also my duty to make sure that all relevant paper work including safety checks are completed in & out of the facilities department. I also carry out emergency lighting tests and repairs. Fire Alarm Checks. Maintaining Duplex Water softeners.  I always enjoy finding new ways of saving energy within the company by the use of inverters, LED lighting & energy management solutions.  Having the extra skills and experience, I am relied upon for plumbing issues, carpentry, decorating, flat roofing and general building works.

Since working for the company I have been able to bring the HVAC & Heating into the twenty first century  I have re-developed all plant rooms with new eco boilers, heat recovery HVAC sytems and the use of inverters.

The company now runs on a fully automated cylon building management system which has proved  to be a massive success.

I have no qualifications in BMS systems however I installed the system myself across the whole site. Everything I know in this field has been self taught. The system controls everything from AC, HVAC, lighting, pool plant, heating, critical services and much much more.

The system was developed to make things run as smooth as possible on the site bringing customers the best experience at the hotel at all times but at the same time making the site energy efficient.

The  BMS has a monitioring system in place just in case a problem arises. I believe the problems should be detected and repaired before the fault has an impact on others or equipment.

Being I am on call 365 days a year I monitor the system 24/7. I monitor the system using a 4G connection on my mobile or dial in using a high speed secure connection from my computer at home. The system sends emails and texts messages with alarms from the central alarm handler software installed. The system set the levels of urgency and pre-alarms so the problem can be detected in the early stages.h

Should a problem arise I either dial in or attend site and fix the problem. I believe I have a very high track record of finding a solution quickly every time. Should I be away on holiday I have the keys skills in being able to provide simple clear instructions to staff on site to resolve the issue in a speedy manner with little disruption.

I believe BMS Systems are the key to the future. This system has payed for it self over and over with the use of inverters and energy management system working along side the BMS.

I am responsible for other staff within the department. I am keen to teach staff new skills, pushing them to there limits all the time."All you need is staff willing to learn"

Electrical Knowledge

Willingness Is the key to success

"I started off with no known knowledge. Everything I have carried out has always been inspired by myself wanting to learn and taking a hands on approach. I believe anything can be achieved if you have the wright mind set.

This in mind I am always seeking to be able to learn new skills when ever I have the opportunity."

Half a Million Restaurant refurbishment

This Restaurant was managed by myself & others. It was completely renovated. I had a large part to play in carrying out the strip out, Electrical work, Painting, Carpentry & data work.

Canteen into offices

This canteen was converted into offices. I laid a new solid oak floor, refurbished the ceiling grid using plasterboard, fully decorated and installed new power & data sockets. A kitchen area was also installed & plumbed by myself.

Heat Conservation

This was a conservatory roof which I Celotexed and dry lined as there was heat being wasted through the roof.

Office Alterations

This was a large office that I converted into two smaller offices to maximize space.
