About Duane Hicks Calgary Flying Club

Duane Hicks is the CEO and general manager of the Calgary Flying Club, where he manages 30 employees and trains student pilots for both private and commercial licensing. A graduate of Stevenson Technical Training Center in Winnipeg, Canada, Mr. Hicks has 30 years of professional aircraft experience.

The experienced pilot previously served as the director of business development for Buffalo Airways, a charter and courier flight company located in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. During his two-year tenure there, he managed all operations for the business and oversaw 50 employees. He also acquired a number of military and fuel clients for the charter airway, and was responsible for developing an aerial fire program; he was featured on a History Channel series about the company.

Born into the aircraft trade, Mr. Hicks started working for his family’s aerial operations company in 1986. After purchasing the family business from his father in 1999, he took the company public in 2004, remaining as executive vice president of marketing for the new company, Discovery Air, until 2006.
