Derek Fitzhenry - Accomplished Football Coach and Athletic Director

An accomplished football coach and athletic director, Derek Fitzhenry currently serves as the Athletic Director of Sheldon I.S.D. Before leading the Sheldon athletic programs he served as assistant head football coach and strength and conditioning coordinator for North Shore High School in Houston. There, he trains a total of 900 student athletes while maintaining additional responsibilities as ninth-grade campus coordinator. Also the head coach of the varrsity offensive, Derek Fitzhenry played a key role in guiding the team to the 2015 6A Division I state championship, which brings the total number of consecutive championships he has helped secure in his football career to 54. Previously, Derek Fitzhenry served as athletic director and head football coach at Giddings Independent School District. Under his leadership as athletic director, the district finished first in the central Texas region and fourth statewide in the Lone Star Cup competition, which recognizes the program that has won the most championships in a given year. In addition, over his eight-year tenure, more than 70 of his athletes secured college scholarships. As head football coach, Mr. Fitzhenry accepted four Coach of the Year awards and guided his team to set such records as the highest win percentage in school history. Derek Fitzhenry holds a master’s degree in administration from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Lamar University. He maintains principal certification in Texas, as well as grade 6-12 teaching certifications in history, social studies, and physical education.

Derek Fitzhenry serves as athletic director at Sheldon ISD, a 6A school district on the east side of suburban Houston, Texas.  Sheldon ISD is the fastest growing suburban district in Houston. The district is in the middle of completing a 285 million dollar new high school, along with all new sports stadiums. Within the Sheldon ISD boundary lies the stat of the art Billion dollar project, Generation Park (http://generationpark.com). Derek Fitzhenry also Serves as the Head Football coach at C. E. CE King has a rich history of wining football games and combined with Coach Fitzhenry's success as a head coach and Asst. Head Coach at North Shore, where he won the 6A D1 State Championship in 2015.
